Corgi’s beginnings can be traced back to Northampton in 1934. Originally named the Mettoy Company, a major change came in 1956 when a larger factory in Swansea was used to manufacture the first pressure die-cast toys. The name Corgi was chosen because of its link to its Welsh manufacturing base, and a Welsh breed of dog.
Purchased by Hornby in 2008 after a succession of different owners, Corgi proudly claim to be the leading name in die-cast scale cars and models, and is one of Britain’s best known brands. Their ranges cover almost every conceivable interest. Apart from their ever popular toys, the company makes highly detailed scale models of lorries, vans, buses, coaches, cars, aircraft and almost all products related to films or television series.
Many items are made in strictly limited quantities and come with numbered certificates. Some early models are now extremely rare, and items in mint condition can command several hundred pounds at auctions. Probably the best known Corgi model ever made was the iconic James Bond Aston Martin DB5 that featured in the Thunderball film.
This website shop enables customers to purchase any item from Corgi’s ranges, and have it conveniently delivered direct to their home. Customers can also download the latest catalogues, and see the planned releases for up to six months ahead. A Collectors Club keeps enthusiasts informed of all the latest news.
