Like its neighbouring town, Paignton, Torquay has always been a popular seaside holiday destination. Although this does mean that the town has a higher-than-average number of souvenir shops, arcades and bars, as the largest town in Torbay, Torquay has much to offer in terms of High Street shopping. The town boasts several toy shops including Toys Plus and the Early Learning Centre. Shoppers who wish to travel further afield also have the choice of several out-of-town retail parks to choose from.
The Action Model Centre in Lucius Street, is a well established independent toy shop that offers great service and competitive prices. Run by the same family since 1988, the selection of toys and models includes activity sets as well as radio controlled buggies and planes for older children. Chain retailer Early Learning Centre also has a shop in Torquay, and is a popular store for families with very young children.
