As the capital city of Devon, Exeter successfully manages to combine a mix of historic buildings and a modern shopping environment - including a generous mix of independent and major toy shops. Redevelopment of part of the city produced the award-winning Princesshay Shopping Centre. Combined with the older but revitalised Guildhall centre, Exeter now has a shopping area to rival the best in the country.
Exeter’s toy shops are a mix of the multiple groups, and some interesting independent retailers, where you can always expect to find something new and different. Following the closure of Exeter's Pram and Toy Shop in 2000, Thomas Moore in Fore Street is now the local independent Toymaster outlet, with an excellent selection of all the latest and most popular games and collectable toys. The giant Toys R Us store is on the edge of Exeter, and the town also has a Mothercare, Early Learning and two Argos shops. No wonder the West Country as a whole is England’s fastest growing region.
